Aim For a Writing Habit, Not Perfect Writing
Writing something is better than nothing
Yesterday was one of those days where I couldn’t write a thing. I had my topic in mind, but the article wasn't flowing as I sat in my office and typed away.
All I wanted to do was close the browser and find something else to do. Instead, I write for an hour each morning, so I could come back tomorrow and pick it up — no one would know.
A couple of years ago, that was what I would have done. Then, if it wasn’t flowing, I was going. But yesterday, I pushed myself to see out the whole hour and put something together.
I looked at the article this morning, and it’s not great. It reads like a collection of dot points with seemingly no link.
However, the foundation of an article is there, and with about 30 mins of work doing some touch-ups around the edges, it will be ready to post.
Even though I didn’t finish with an end product, my work yesterday got me 70% there. This highlights the benefits of persevering with writing even when it doesn’t feel good.
My writing usually flows, and it’s enjoyable to log in for an hour to create. Then, I connect with the screen to turn a blank document and turn it into a thousand-word article simply by translating the…
