Do You Burn More Cash Than Calories?
Improving fitness and health can be a costly endeavour. In 2016, I surveyed my email subscribers to better-understand their fitness investment over the past 12-months and the results they have achieved.
The average spend was around $2000 AUD, which I thought was quite a lot of money. But when I took the time to break down some of the average costs, $2K seemed reasonable.
Common costs:
- Gym membership — $1300 ($25/week)
- Supplements — $400
- Clothing — $200
- Shoes — $150
- Total — $2050
I think that these estimations are on the conservative side of things — I know people who would spend more than $1000 on clothing and shoes alone! It also has no investment in personal training or nutrition advice, or online programs and fitness apps, which are commonly used.
My survey should have broken down their spending into categories to develop a more accurate picture, but we will have to rely on my estimations for now.
The second question the survey asked was ‘what were the results?’ This is essentially the return on investment from their financial spend.
