In 2018, my partner and I decided we wanted to go overseas for decent together. We had been together for over five years but it would be the first time we had been overseas as a couple.

We had both been to the US and UK and were interested in doing something different. We enjoy staying active and exploring on holidays, so when we did some research we found a South America trip that would suit us perfectly.

It was nearly a month in Peru and Bolivia checking out some of the major cities along with visits to the Amazon, Andes and Lake Titicaca. We also added a trip to Easter Island before we headed back to Australia.

The first part of the trip was great. We explored the hustle of Lima, spent three nights in the Amazon rainforest near Peurto Maldono and then headed into the Andes and altitude of Cusco to begin acclimatising for the hike to Macchu Picchu.

This was the part of the trip I was most looking forward to, but the lead up didn’t go to plan!
