It’s Not Personal, It’s Just Business
Dealing with bad actors on your business journey
I find it fascinating what people will do to others in the business world that they would never consider doing to people in their personal life. I think that’s why I enjoy reading the business section of the newspaper and books about business.
I used to think it was about staying updated and learning what’s new, but there’s also an element of interest in the hero and villain storylines that make their way into the business section.
Some people like reading true crime, I like reading about the various misconduct and psychology in action within the business columns.
There are bad actors who prey on the vulnerable with the intent of taking as much as they can for themselves. They view their working as ‘market forces’ and their ability to cheat and lie resulting from their superior intelligence.
These people are boring to me — I’ve met people like this before and they are exactly the same in their personal lives, treating people poorly and lacking empathy in general.
What I find more interesting are ‘good people’ who do bad things, such as the sales consultant who with two children who volunteers at a food bank but then pressures the elderly and illiterate into buying financial…
