This is an important part of developing nutrition habits and routine. When the mindset is endless restriction or avoidance, all people want to do is be done with the strategy and remove the stress. There are exceptions where people need to avoid certain hyperpalatable foods - those few foods that they struggle to control the intake of - if weight loss is a priority. However, these foods can be reintroduced later on.
